Celica
|
After undergoing a total redesign for 2000, nothing is new this year
for Toyota’s long-lived sport coupe, now in its seventh generation.
The Celica name dates back to 1971, making it almost as old as the
Corolla sedan. Convertibles have been offered in the past, but today’s
Celica is a front-drive hatchback coupe that comes in GT and GT-S trim
levels, with two different 1.8-liter four-cylinder engines.

Toyota hopes to piggyback on the success of the Lexus RX 300, a

With the Prius, Toyota is the second company to offer a

|
Displaying a modest face-lift for 2001, Toyota’s minivan has gained a
more powerful engine and several new features. Appearance changes
include a new front fascia, grille and bumpers, as well as redesigned
taillights and fresh wheel covers. A backseat video entertainment
system with a VCR in a covered unit between the front seats and a
lateral skid-control system called Vehicle Skid Control is new for
2001. Side-impact airbags for the front seats are a new option, and
the dashboard has been restyled.

|
Toyota introduces its first pickup with four conventional doors for
2001, the Tacoma Double Cab. The Tacoma is Toyota's compact pickup,

|
| |

|
The Tundra was introduced for 2000 as the first full-size Japanese

replaced the midsize T100 in Toyota's lineup and challenges the Ford
F-150, Chevrolet Silverado, Dodge Ram and the GMC Sierra, the
full-size domestic pickups.
