Help With Opening & Viewing PDF Files

All of our Research Material is saved as a PDF file so you will need a working PDF Reader to view your requested material. Most computers already have the Adobe Reader installed and can already open these files without any issues.

If you are having trouble either downloading or opening your PDF file then the following tips may help you. (these tips mostly apply to Windows users)

Many programs alter the PDF settings on your computer so it is not uncommon to have to reinstall your PDF Reader software from time to time (especially if you use the Adobe Reader).

Corrupted File/Strange Characters/Missing Pieces/Blank Pages

These issues can either be caused by a “bad download” or problems with your Adobe Reader. Follow these steps:

1) Download the file again making sure that you choose “SAVE” and not “Open”.  If it asks to replace the existing file choose YES or OKAY.  Now start your PDF Reader and try opening the file directly from the Reader (not your browser).

Note: If you are trying to “OPEN” the file directly from the download link (through your Internet Browser) then you will probably need to be using Internet Explorer (not Firefox or another browser).

2) If that didn’t solve your problem, try Reinstalling your Adobe Reader or other PDF File Reader software.  We recommend the FoxIT Reader (for Windows users), which is much simpler than the Adobe Reader and doesn’t seem to have all the problems that the Adobe Reader does.  Both Readers are free and only take a few minutes to install or reinstall.

FoxIT Reader (Note: Choose FREE VERSION and install using “Custom Install” +++ be sure to uncheck the “Toolbar” and “eBay” add-ons if you don’t want those).

Adobe Reader

Once again, please be sure to SAVE the PDF file to your computer BEFORE opening it.  The download links expire after about 48-hours so you will want your file stored on your computer for future reference.

Firefox

Firefox has issues opening PDF files so we don’t recommend using Firefox to download or read our PDF files.

Mac users need the latest version of the Adobe Reader for Mac.
